Did you know that gum disease (periodontitis) is a major public health problem affecting 45% of UK adults and their quality of life? Periodontitis damages the soft tissue and destroys the bone that supports your teeth.
It is also linked to other serious conditions such as heart disease.
You may experience the following symptoms from periodontitis:
- Bright red, swollen gums that bleed easily
- Tender, puffy gums
- Your teeth may look “longer” as the gum recedes
- More spaces between your teeth
- Pus between your teeth and gums
- Bad breath
- Bad taste in your mouth
- Loose teeth
- A change in your bite
Periodontitis is usually the result of poor oral hygiene but with regular visits to our hygienists, brushing twice daily and interdental cleaning (flossing, interdental brushes), it can be treated if caught early enough.
